Well, Hello to all and thanks for reading. This is the last blog before the attempt.
We’re not there yet but maybe finally getting there. I feel a bit like Charlie Sheen in Apocalypse Now -- .

The long and short of things is still flux with the position and training as my elbows and pads are giving out – literally – I’ve worn out 3 sets of pads already. The G Forces are such that the pads wear out. I’m going for a more aggressive position on the bike, and this is putting more stress.
I tried to put bigger pads, but this seems to have disturbed the aerodynamics. We tried to do an aero test of this but the computer failed to keep the data when I turned the GPS off. So we only can go by ‘FEEL’ and ‘Lap times’.

Mon- a rest day and worked on the bike, glued on a tubular, got a massage, did the food shopping,
cleaned the house (lightly), etc.

Tues – Training at the track mid-day – feeling better, but not there – doing efforts around 260, 280 and 300w. 2hrs. one 24’ effort. Hot enough in there.

Wed – Training some speedier efforts 3’ on and 3’ off, but picking up Matteo from the airport.

Thurs – first day with Matteo at the track. Did some 7-9’ efforts, and then some dead starts. Lap times seemingly way off from where we want them to be and given the power. Emailing the Aerocoach guys to check assumptions on CdA, Air Density, Crr, drivetrain losses, minimum distance versus distance riden (these are the parameters that go into it). Checking tyre pressures, air pressure, temps, everything.

Friday – rest day, working on bike, glue on tyre, checking skinsuit.

Sat – at the track and still not the times we want – 4x12’ efforts and 2hrs – Changed arm pads back to smaller kind – times better but now elbows killing me; gotta fix this.

Sunday – took off power meter in the AM, changed to new bottom bracket, new chain, new wheels and tires. Put on the 58 tooth big ring. Put more padding on elbows. At the track in the PM.
Times and sensations good. Laps are consistently about 18.1’’ which is what we need and finishing some efforts at 17.9’’.
A further thing in the Mix is that there were two other record attempts on Saturday and Sunday by these (friendly) French guys. They didn’t speak any English or Spanish, and there were more than a few details to be ironed out. So I had to show up to the Velodrome Sat and Sunday evening to translate for them.
Another detail is the Mexican Federation was supposed to have Organised a UCI International Commissaire for Mike and my attempts for thurs, but apparently when the national Mexican Comms arrived Sat, this had not been done (in spite of my emailing and checking 20x).
The national Comms guy was fortunately a mover and shaker and got a guy from Venezuela on the line that evening, 15’ before the French guy started. Trying to keep cool in all of this.
No more power meter or anything, just perceived effort and lap times.
Mike McCarthy gets here and is doing some flying 2km efforts with 15.5’’ laps average (that’s a 1:02 km btw).
